The British Democrats have made it clear during our campaigning that the only way to stop asylum seekers coming into the UK is for Britain to withdraw from the UN 1951 Refugee Convention. This withdrawal is unlikely to happen any time soon, but it is a realistic proposal because politicians in South Africa are debating such a plan.

Interesting recent reports indicate that South Africa is planning to withdraw from UN Conventions so that the government can restrict immigration and send refugees back to countries that are not deemed dangerous.

The Minister of Home Affairs for South Africa, Aaron Motsoaledi, has announced plans to strengthen the nation’s asylum and immigration laws as part of his bid to overhaul the migration system.

One of the main proposals featured in the government’s White Paper is that the South African government temporarily withdraws from the 1951 United Nations Refugee Convention and the 1967 Protocol Relating to the Status of Refugees. This action would allow South Africa to restrict immigration and not grant socio-economic rights to migrants.

The 1951 United Nations Refugee Convention relates to European refugees post-Second World War and to “events occurring before 1 January 1951”. The 1967 Protocol Relating to the Status of Refugees removes all geographic and time-based limitations mentioned in the 1951 Convention.

The South African government has decided to take action because the country is witnessing an enormous number of immigrants going there in search of better economic opportunities (not because they are fleeing war or persecution). Recent statistics estimate 2.4 million immigrants.

This avalanche of immigrants is causing many problems in a country with an unemployment rate of 40%. Many are taking the law into their own hands by attacking migrants coming from other countries, accusing them of stealing jobs and committing crimes.

It’s unclear if and when South Africa will withdraw from those Conventions and Protocols, but what matters for British nationalists is that if South Africa can do it, surely Britain can do the same! What’s needed is a political will and backbone, which is sadly missing in politicians at Westminster.

However, the British Democrats do have the backbone and resolve to stop the invasion of our beloved nation!
