We are the British Democratic Party, a UK based political party registered with the electoral commission. Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymised string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service Privacy Policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

Who we share your data with

If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.

The privacy of the data we hold is highly important to us. We take this seriously and will always treat this information with the utmost confidentiality and care. This policy explains what data we collect, how we collect it and how we keep it safe. Our privacy policy reflects the changes in data-protection laws, namely the GDPR requirements

If you contact us, subscribe to our newsletter or emails, join or donate, we may collect the details you provide which could include name, address, email address and telephone number. We process credit card and bank details that you supply to collect payments via a third party and do not see or hold any credit card details. We do use other third-party companies to process personal information on our behalf, including, data storage service providers, Donorbox, MailChimp and Stripe. Our website hosting service provider is WordPress. We also have social media networks integrated via widgets on our website.

We primarily use your personal information to contact you either personally or through newsletters or emails.  In each case you have an option to opt out of such communications.  If you donate more than £500 to the party, the Electoral Commission require us to keep a separate record of this donation and also to check the relevant electoral register.  If you donate larger amounts than £1500, we have to directly inform the Electoral Commission. If you donate more than £7,500 to our party during any calendar year, we are obliged under PPERA to report such a donation to the Electoral Commission, who will publish the fact that you have made a donation over £7,500. We operate on a regional structure and supply personal data to our Regional Organisers who in turn will pass this onto the branch officers in their region.  Your data is only shared with party officers in the relevant area. How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

We store personal information for the periods needed for the purposes for which the information was collected or for which it is to be further processed.  And sometimes we’ll keep it for longer if we need to by law.  Otherwise, we delete it.

As long as you are an active member, we will keep your data.  As long as you are subscribed to our newsletters and emails, we will keep your data.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

You have the right to access and control your data.  You can access all the information we hold about you or if you wish to amend any information we hold about you.

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

Akismet

We collect information about visitors who comment on Sites that use our Akismet anti-spam service. The information we collect depends on how the User sets up Akismet for the Site, but typically includes the commenter’s IP address, user agent, referrer, and Site URL (along with other information directly provided by the commenter such as their name, username, email address, and the comment itself).
