The exciting news many of our members, supporters, and donors have been waiting for is here: The British Democrats will contest seats at the General Election on July 4, 2024.
Party officials have received emails, text messages, and social media messages asking if we are standing candidates in the General Election. This post provides the answers and reasons!
Members’ discussion at AGM
At our AGM in November 2023, a pivotal decision was reached through a robust democratic process. We engaged in a thorough discussion about fielding a limited and select number of parliamentary candidates in strategic areas. Party officials presented their perspectives, and the majority, with the exception of one member, endorsed the proposal. This collective decision underscores our party’s unwavering commitment to democratic principles and our shared vision for the future. We are a party of aspiration, not defeatism!
Next stage of our development
Over the past two years, the British Democrats have witnessed substantial and gratifying growth. We’ve welcomed numerous seasoned and dedicated campaigners into our ranks, recruited several councillors, and achieved notable success at the local government level. Our recent triumph over the Labour Party with an impressive 47% vote at the council by-election in Cambridgeshire, is a testament to our burgeoning influence. We have consistently garnered the highest Nationalist votes for the past two consecutive years. Our daily street activities and the steady expansion of our online community of newsletter subscribers, social media followers, subscribers, and supporters further underscore our progress. The British Democrats have established a firm, unyielding foundation and are poised to advance, larger and stronger than ever before!
Speeding up the recruitment process
One of the main advantages of standing for parliament is the free leaflet delivery service the Royal Mail is legally obligated to provide. We provide the election address leaflets to the Royal Mail, and the postman (or postwoman) delivers them.
Each parliamentary constituency has over 50,000 addresses! Buying leaflets in bulk will save us money in the long term and is a win-win for the British Democrats. By ordering vast amounts of leaflets, we will get an excellent deal and pay less per thousand than we would if we made a usual regular order of a much smaller amount. This delivery service will be an ideal opportunity and a significant boost for the British Democrats as we step up to the next level of development.
Publicity
Hustings: Our candidates will get the chance to challenge the Lib-Lab-Con on camera directly (we will film the hustings). Parliamentary candidates always make it into local newspapers and are often invited onto online livestream channels or radio and TV interviews. This media attention helps to raise the party profile.
Building the British Democrats brand and giving the voters the opportunity to vote for British Democrats at every election
Patriotic voters need a party to vote for at every election to become regular British Democrat voters. In key areas where we will be standing, voters are already starting to trust us. Our excellent local election results in early May demonstrated this.
During the past two decades, patriotic voters have got into the habit of voting for other patriotic parties in many areas of the country. After regularly putting the cross in the box for one of those parties, patriots often classed themselves as loyal to that party. Now, there’s an opportunity for the British Democrats to become the new party for patriotic people to rally around—we must not miss this opportunity!
County Council Elections 2025
Standing in carefully chosen parliamentary seats is not just about the General Election. It’s a strategic move towards next year’s County Council elections, where we will stand candidates in these areas. It will raise the profile of our candidates to the next level and continue building for the future in key areas where we have hardworking parish councillors. This is a clear demonstration of our forward-thinking and strategic planning.
Challenging Reform UK
Some critics have suggested that authentic Nationalist parties such as the British Democrats shouldn’t stand any candidates against Reform UK and wait until they collapse! The problem with this is that when Reform does fall apart, another wishy-washy, media-hyped safety valve party will pop up in an attempt to block genuine British Nationalism. Parties such as Reform UK come and go. Previously, there was the Brexit Party, and before that, UKIP.
Remember, Reform UK have a disastrous immigration policy of one in, one out! So, we must not be deterred by these semi-establishment plastic patriots and get on with our long-term sensible building project of sinking deep roots with our Community-Based political strategy. We must challenge parties such as Reform UK sooner rather than later!
Standing at Parliamentary by-elections
The British Democrats have previously avoided parliamentary by-elections, mainly because of the number of candidates parachuted into the constituency (there are often a dozen or so, and it becomes a bit of a circus). We will only stand candidates at the parliamentary level if we are active in the area or have at least one councillor in the constituency, not in random constituencies where there has been no groundwork.
Standing when we have control of the local authority?
One or two Nationalist commentators have made it clear they would only advocate standing for a parliamentary constituency once their party has control and a majority of seats in the local authority that the constituency covers. There are two problems here. If this strategy had been adopted, no British Nationalist candidate would have ever stood for parliament, and none would stand for parliament at any time soon. Successful parties are built by stepping forward, not stepping back! Defeatist attitudes and negativity are two of the main reasons Nationalism in the UK is in the position it currently finds itself. The British Democrats are an optimistic and positive breath of fresh air! We don’t get demoralised, pessimistic, or downbeat; we take things in our stride and always work towards the next goal.
