The media had much to say about the results of Marine Le Pen’s party in the recent French elections.

Against the odds and contrary to the predictions of many pollsters, the Rassemblement National (National Rally), led by Marine Le Pen and Jordan Bardella, found itself in an unexpected third place in the recent French elections. This surprising outcome saw them trailing behind the far-left New Popular Front and Macron’s Ensemble Alliance.

As expected, the mainstream media were pleased to report the defeat of the National Rally, even though the truth is that no one won this election. The left-wing alliance that came first didn’t have enough MPs to form a government. It needs to be clarified if and when a government will be formed. Therefore, the most likely result is a year of political deadlock, as the French president cannot hold a general election before one year has passed.

Many would like to believe that Marine Le Pen will be consigned to the scrap heap of history. However, the election results, far from being a defeat, are a blessing in disguise for her party.

National Rally received the highest share of votes at both the first and second rounds of voting, increasing their number of seats by around 50. However, some of her candidates lost because over 200 candidates from other parties conspired to withdraw from the second round of voting to avoid splitting the anti-Le Pen votes. This form of tactical voting has been played out in the past to block the National Rally, creating an unnatural alliance of far-left communist types and global capitalist conservative types. Of course, the policies of the National Rally, a Patriotic Nationalist party, are above and beyond the unnatural alliance previously mentioned.

The 10 million voters who supported National Rally are still present, and their discontent is simmering. If their grievances remain unaddressed, their numbers could swell, posing a significant challenge to the current political landscape. Another factor favouring National Rally is related to the turmoil caused by the policies of the New Popular Front.

The left-wing alliance may struggle to pursue its political agenda. In a few years, Marine Le Pen might argue that her party is the only viable alternative to her rival’s incompetence, regardless of the outcome – whether it involves messy far-left policies or a deadlock in parliament. This potential scenario adds an intriguing dimension to the political landscape.

She has to wait, expect them to make mistakes, and then promote herself as the only competent politician in France. Therefore, she has a valid point when she claims her time will come, but only with a slight delay.
