There has been a startling rise in Home Office expenditure on immigration. In 2019-2020, the cost of dealing with illegal migration was about £700 million; by 2023-2024, the price had surged to £6.6 billion, representing an incredible 840% increase. This rapid escalation, which only pertains to the Home Office budget for Asylum Support, Resettlement, and Accommodation, underscores the urgent need for immediate action.
These costs will rise even further due to the expected increase in small boat crossings. Hotel chains are increasing their prices to house illegals as they realise the government will pay almost anything.
The new Labour government’s strategy to tackle the backlog of asylum applications by swiftly approving around 100,000 illegal migrants instead of rejecting them is a cause for concern. Additionally, the government plans to cancel the Rwanda Scheme. These short-sighted decisions may provide a welcome opportunity for people-smuggling gangs.
Despite the presence of the Border Force (responsible for border security and law enforcement) and the Illegal Migration Task Force (tasked with handling illegal migration and deportations), the question remains—are they effectively carrying out their duties?
The British public is tired of decades of high levels of illegal and legal immigration, which are eroding British society and leading to a loss of national sovereignty.
