As I write this, British farmers are gathering in London to protest against policies that threaten their livelihoods. The British Democrats fully support this demonstration. We stand with the farmers as they defend their right to continue working the land that has been in their families for generations. This protest is a crucial statement against the destructive policies being pushed under the guise of environmental goals and ‘Net Zero’ initiatives. These farmers, representing the backbone of our nation’s food security and rural heritage, deserve to be heard and protected from the encroaching influence of monopoly agriculture and government overreach.

British farmers are currently facing a dire situation, with Labour’s new tax proposals posing a significant threat to the existence of family farms. These proposals, which are being deceptively justified under the banners of ‘Net Zero’ and ‘environmental responsibility’, are a clear attempt to dismantle traditional British agriculture. This situation leaves small farmers with no choice but to abandon the fields their families have worked for generations. The British Democrats are standing in full support of these farmers, and we will not stand idly by as our government forces ordinary families off their land.
Tom Bradshaw, President of the National Farmers’ Union (NFU), voiced his frustration, saying the Labour government’s new taxes reflect “an ill-thought-out attack” on family farms’ unique financial pressures. “This policy threatens to saddle future generations of farmers with unsustainable debt,” he warned, which could lead to a future dominated by industrial farming giants. Bradshaw’s concern underscores the dangers posed by ‘monopoly agriculture,’ a model where mega-corporations gain near-total control over food production, from factory-farm to fork.
The push for monopoly agriculture harms not only farmers but also consumers. This system prioritises corporate profits over quality, nutrition, and affordability. Mega-farms are increasing their market shares by lobbying for policies that drive family farms out of business. Labour’s silence on this issue is not just an oversight; it indicates complicity. The government aligns itself with a global agenda to control food supply systems, concentrating power in a few corporate giants with disproportionate influence over markets, food policies, and even nutritional guidelines.
The Head of Agribusiness (a farm consultancy and management services company), David Kinnersley, expressed concerns about Labour’s environmental policies, stating they lack the essential stability for rural economies. “Farmers need clarity to keep food supplies stable and maintain rural jobs,” he said, highlighting how these sudden tax shifts could not only ruin small farmers but disrupt food security itself. British families could face rising costs and a lack of transparency about where their food comes from, furthering this monopoly’s reach into British households.
Our government’s allegiance to global corporations over British citizens is costing us significantly—not only in terms of food security but also in the health of our environment and the well-being of our people. The British Democrats actively oppose this takeover because we believe a large industrial farm system will harm soil health, local economies, and food quality. These policies do not benefit the planet, the people, or the farmers; they only serve the interests of the wealthy elite driving this harmful corporate-led agriculture.
Labour’s tax policy regarding family farms is just one step in a systematic effort to transfer control of the world’s agricultural systems to a small group of corporate interests. This move does not benefit the planet or its people; instead, it caters solely to the mega-corporations that dominate the food supply chain. We will not remain passive while small British farmers are pushed off their land. The British Democrats stand firmly with British farmers against this global takeover. We will persist in resisting every attempt to replace family farms with monopoly agriculture.
Now more than ever, we must ensure that our food supply is in the hands of British family farmers who genuinely care for it. Let there be no doubt about the immense value we place on these farmers and which side we are on.
