It’s a well-known fact that asylum seekers have a lavish lifestyle at taxpayers’ expense, and another story supports this claim.

It’s important to note that asylum seekers are often placed in temporary accommodation, such as 4-star hotels, while their applications are being processed. However, a few days ago, it was reported that a family accused of pretending to be Afghans to claim asylum in the UK illegally is living in a luxury house worth £575,000 in a prestigious commuter town in the Home Counties. Over the past year, their stay has cost taxpayers £160,000.

Until recently, they lived at the Holiday Inn in Wembley, north London. The Home Office has fully booked the hotel for asylum seekers and is currently not accepting any other customers. However, they have now moved to a new home in Hemel Hempstead, where they are required to stay as a condition of their bail.

The 1,136-square-foot property features four bedrooms, an open-plan ground floor, and a luxurious fitted kitchen equipped with high-end appliances. It was listed for sale at £575,000 in March 2023, but according to the Land Registry, it was sold in 2022 for £467,000. The property has plush deep-pile carpets, new wooden floors, and a 341-square-foot loft room with views of Hertfordshire.

The modern property is within half a mile of excellent schools. It is close to Hemel Hempstead’s amenities and railway station. It also features a newly landscaped rear garden and includes two parking spaces.

If this is not bad enough, those refugees were accused of twice failing to obtain visas to come to Britain as Indian citizens earlier in 2023. They appeared in court for the first time earlier this month. During the hearing, they were provided with both Dari and Punjabi interpreters.

Consider the strain on public services that could be alleviated if these resources were redirected to support native Britons in need. How many veterans and native Britons experiencing hardship would appreciate such generous treatment?

This situation—which highlights the unfair burden on the public purse—is unacceptable. Yet, none of the parties currently elected to Westminster are taking action, leaving the British Democrats as the only political party with the courage, and correct policies, willing to address this issue.
