To understand the injustice that the NHS may be inflicting on native British citizens, we can examine a recent widely covered story. This story has revealed a controversial NHS scheme that allows undocumented migrants to bypass the queue at Accident & Emergency (A&E).

One of those NHS trusts is University College London Hospitals (UCLH), which offers the 987 inclusion initiative. Details are on its website.

The initiative offers “a route for patients to attend University College Hospital (UCH) and have an A&E level of access to tests/treatments but without the prolonged waits and other problems associated with attending A&E spontaneously.”

As a result, these individuals can receive treatment within 15 minutes, a stark contrast to the NHS figures that show an average wait of more than four hours for 25% of patients.

Undocumented migrants, class A drug users, and those struggling with persistent alcohol misuse are among those deemed eligible for this initiative.

The initiative is part of several programs being implemented across the country. One such program in south London provides walk-in services at community day centres, catering to both refused asylum seekers and undocumented migrants. In Stoke-on-Trent, an NHS team is on standby to assist failed asylum seekers, many of whom are homeless and destitute, lacking access to public funds.

Efforts to assist refused asylum seekers and illegal migrants are occurring while the NHS is facing significant difficulties with Accident & Emergency (A&E) waiting times.

In the fourth quarter of 2023/24, there were approximately 6.7 million A&E attendances in England. Shockingly, only 58% of patients in Major (type 1) departments were admitted, transferred, or discharged within the four-hour target, indicating a worrying decline in performance.

Is it any wonder that our health system is struggling, and British people must wait an excessively long time for treatment, even if it puts their lives in danger?

This situation is intolerable, and the British Democrats are committed to putting an end to this unacceptable state of affairs.
