The NHS Muslim Network has provided guidance to NHS staff on how to convert to Islam.

The Network’s ‘Guide for New Muslims’ encourages NHS staff to consider converting to Islam and reassures them that negative reactions from family and friends are normal and may take time to change.

The guide, written by and circulated to NHS staff, addresses the reader as a ‘convert’ and says it has been written “to please God by providing support to converts to Islam, their peers and colleagues.

NHS staff are advised to wear modest clothing, defined as loose-fitting garments covering all body parts except the face, hands, and feet. Adhering to this dress code is considered fulfilling a divine obligation. Staff were told to fast for Ramadan to understand and experience how Muslims feel.

The NHS supports Staff Networks by giving employees time off from regular work. Employees can participate in these activities at least two days each month!

The NHS Muslim Network aims to ‘inspire, celebrate, and champion’ the contributions of the NHS Muslim community. Its goals include raising awareness about Islam in the NHS and combating Islamophobia. The Network offers a webinar series called ‘How to be a better Muslim’ and guides like ‘A Basic Guide to Islam,’ ‘New to Hijab,’ and ‘Allyship’ for non-Muslim NHS staff.

Several prominent civil servants in Britain, including NHS Chief Strategy Officer Chris Hopson and NHS Director for Staff Experience Em Wilkinson-Brice, have expressed support for the Muslim Network’s events.

Hopson, who serves as the Executive Sponsor of the Network, attended a session titled “What is Islamophobia?” during Islamophobia Awareness Month in 2024. Wilkinson-Brice opened the Network’s celebration for Black History Month in October 2022.

Hopson, the Executive Sponsor of the Network, attended a “What is Islamophobia?” session during Islamophobia Awareness Month. Wilkinson-Brice opened a Black History Month celebration. In the 2022/23 fiscal year, the NHS paid Hopson £190,000 and Brice-Wilkinson £175,000, both amounts exceeding the Prime Minister’s salary.

NHS England remarked that the New Muslim Guidance is “aimed at improving the care provided to patients. We are a diverse country.”

The perception of wokeness in the NHS suggests that there is Islamophobia present, but it overlooks the reality of Christianophobia. To illustrate this, consider the following question: Would the NHS allow a Christian network to provide guidance to Muslim staff on how to convert to Christianity?”

Imagine if a “Guide for New Christians” encouraged Muslim NHS staff to consider converting to Christianity and reassured them that negative reactions from family and friends are normal and may take time to change. Would such a guide be well received? The authors of that guide would likely face serious consequences, possibly even jail time.

The NHS was established in 1948 to provide healthcare to everyone in the UK based on their needs rather than their ability to pay. It was not meant to function as a political organisation where different interest groups could voice their opinions and frustrations.

By December 2024, the NHS waiting list reached nearly 7.5 million, with 6.2 million patients in Britain, over three million of whom had waited more than 18 weeks for treatment.

Another organisation that has become increasingly woke is the Premier League. The days when fans watched a football match, nothing but a football match, are behind us. The Premier League often requires players to ‘take the knee’ before each game. Furthermore, the players’ jerseys must display the slogan “Kick Out Racism.”

The Premier League and the NHS share some similarities. Both are often led by individuals from privileged backgrounds who display a condescending attitude towards others.
