British Democrat Councillor Peter Lawrence, a working farmer and local Councillor in Cornwall, has become a key voice in the growing movement to defend British agriculture. In 2025, he became a Councillor in Cornwall (click here to read more), marking a strong stand for farming communities in local politics. Along with the British Democrats, Peter has been actively advocating for the protection and support of farming communities. In an interview with Emma Dunwell of Resistance GB, Peter discusses the critical issues facing farmers, including government policies, immigration impacts, and climate change concerns.
With 25 years of experience in farming, Peter is no stranger to the daily struggles and pressures faced by farmers in the UK. As a member of both Farmers Movement Cornwall and Farmers to Action, Peter is deeply involved in the grass-roots movements fighting to protect British farming.
In the interview, he shares his concerns about the direction UK farming is heading. He emphasises that many farmers are being incentivised by government policies to stop food production in favour of environmental projects, such as tree planting and re-wilding. Peter acknowledges the importance of environmental protection but cautions that the current policies are pushing farmers too far away from food production, which he believes is crucial for the country’s self-sufficiency.
Peter also discusses the broader political context, raising concerns about the effect of immigration on local communities and the growing disconnect between policy-makers and rural areas. He suggests that certain policies are not only hurting farmers but could lead to a future where the UK becomes increasingly reliant on imported food.
Another key point Peter raises is the controversy around the role of government in manipulating climate and weather in the name of addressing “man-made global warming.” He is wary of the impact of Net-Zero policies and the so called “2030 Agenda” may have on agricultural practices, especially as they affect British farmers who are already struggling to survive.
Throughout the interview, Peter stresses that farmers are being sidelined in the national conversation, which could have dangerous consequences for food security in the UK. We need to start looking after ourselves and producing our own food again. His message underscores the importance of a resilient agricultural sector that can meet the country’s needs without relying heavily on imports.
As a councillor, Peter Lawrence is dedicated to representing the interests of farming communities and ensuring their concerns are addressed in local and national politics. The British Democrats advocate for policies that prioritise domestic food production, secure borders, and a government that focuses on the well-being of the British people.
The British Democrats are proud to stand with Councillor Peter Lawrence and British farmers. We believe in a self-sufficient Britain — with protected borders, preserved farmland, and a government that puts the interests of its people first.

Excellent dialogue. The Reform Party was irrelevant without Nigel Farage and whether through illness or internal disputes Farage walks away from Reform the Party will splinter, fragment and again become an irrelevance overnight. A well organised dedicated Racial Nationalist Party will be needed to step into the breach in such an eventuality and I believe The British Democrats are such a Party.
Many thanks to Peter Lawrence for his informative account of the predicament faced by our farmers. The nation depends on our great British farming tradition…globalism must be stopped!
