A concerning narrative has emerged, which has received limited media attention but warrants significant public scrutiny. This narrative suggests that London Mayor Sadiq Khan may be withholding information regarding the existence of grooming gangs operating within London.
A whistleblower within the police force has alleged that these “horrific crimes” have persisted in the capital for over two decades. Throughout the year 2025, the Mayor has declined to respond to inquiries regarding this matter on nine distinct occasions. Furthermore, a former detective with the Metropolitan Police has asserted that there has been a concerted effort to conceal information surrounding these issues.
Former detective Jon Wedger contends that he has uncovered considerable evidence indicating that the organised sexual exploitation of children in London far surpasses the well-documented scandals observed in towns such as Rotherham and Rochdale.
“I’d actually uncovered kids from the age of nine to 14 that were being trafficked for prostitution on an industrial scale.”
“They were being sold in crack houses, swapped for nine rocks of crack, then taken to hotels to have sex with builders that were working in central London. After that, the kids would then be taken to upmarket Arab restaurants in Mayfair around Curzon Street, where they would be traded for as much as £2,000 each. That was happening daily.”
During his tenure in the London Borough of Haringey, Wedger identified 52 individuals who were potential victims of a child sex abuse ring targeting those in care homes, with six of these cases requiring immediate intervention.
Nevertheless, despite presenting his findings to senior police officials and representatives from the local council, he asserts that his attempts to safeguard the victims and hold the perpetrators accountable were thwarted.
Furthermore, his supervisors dismissed comprehensive reports concerning grooming gangs operating in Tower Hamlets, Croydon, and Westminster.
“I was told if I ever mentioned what I’d uncovered, I would lose my home, job and children,” he claimed, “[because] this would ‘f***k the Metropolitan Police past, present and future.“
In support of his assertions, the whistleblower provided the Express with his police notebook from that period, alongside relevant reports submitted to his superiors and a comprehensive statement presented to the 2022 Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse.
The former detective asserted that Mr Khan should be removed from his position immediately due to his persistent refusal to acknowledge the existing issues. He characterised this behaviour as a policy of “willful neglect,” which he argued represents an “act of malfeasance in high office.”
In February, the Mayor declined a proposal for an independent inquiry into the existence of grooming gangs in London, which would have required an investment of £4.49 million. This decision contributes to a concerning trend, as he has previously refused to address inquiries from opposition politicians in the London Assembly on nine separate occasions regarding the potential existence of sex abuse rings.
The British Democrats have expressed a commitment to pursuing justice against these criminal activities, and protecting children.
