Like many places in the UK, local authorities are planning the construction of a new mosque against the will of local people. However, the good news is that local residents in the small town of Dalton-in-Furness, Cumbria (which lies just outside the picturesque Lake District), have taken action to oppose planning permission for a mega mosque. In addition to protesting on the street, they have launched a GoFundMe campaign to hire a specialist barrister to challenge the planning approval.
The three-storey South Lake Islamic Centre, which will be roughly the size of a hypermarket, was granted planning permission in 2022 despite 30 formal objections and a petition signed by more than 70,000 people.
Residents say the approval overlooked local concerns over parking, traffic, and community consultation, and they aim to use legal expertise to scrutinise the decision before construction is completed in 2026.
Donna Hill, a local resident and campaigner, said: “We are a group of concerned residents, parents, and business owners urgently seeking to raise funds to instruct a specialist planning barrister. We are especially worried that the approved plans do not include sufficient parking spaces, which could lead to significant traffic and safety issues for residents, schools, and businesses.”
“Every donation, no matter how small, will help us take the next step in standing up for proper planning in Dalton.”
A mosque, particularly a mega mosque, symbolises Islamic expansion and dominance. One concerned resident stated, “The construction of mosques sends the wrong message to illegal immigrants.”
Despite objections from local residents, Labour Party MP Michelle Scrogham and Labour Party Councillors believe the mosque is essential for the town’s Muslim community. However, there is puzzlement about why a mega mosque should be built in a small, historic market town with a population of 7,000, without any large Muslim community.
The fundraising effort aims to raise money to pay for a barrister to review the council’s approval for breaches of planning rules. The barrister will assess materials, building scale, and traffic implications, including the effect on nearby schools, shops, and businesses. Residents say the timing is crucial because the centre’s foundations are already in place, and construction walls are being built.

The goal is to raise £10,000, and so far, the amount raised is not far off; just one final push is needed. Let’s support the brave campaigners in their efforts to stop the mosque’s construction.

It shouldn’t be necessary to object to having Mosques here. Government should have ensured that Britain would remain a basically Christian country, free from alien people who seek to change the way we live. We must reject with every fibre of our bodies our inevitable domination by Islam. This is rightfully our country. It is not a pawn to be played by a corrupt political class.
