Lancashire Police are investigating potential corporate negligence that may have contributed to the tragic death, mistreatment, or neglect of patients at Blackpool Victoria Hospital. This Hospital, which has earned the chilling moniker ‘Hospital of Horrors’ from the local community, is at the centre of a major investigation.

The major investigation, known as Operation Bermuda, is a comprehensive probe that is considering a range of serious offences, including corporate manslaughter, corporate ill-treatment, wilful neglect, and breaches of the Health and Safety at Work Act. This investigation is crucial in uncovering the truth about the alleged neglect and abuse at the Blackpool Victoria Hospital.

Shockingly, all staff members at the Hospital’s Stroke Unit have now been jailed as authorities continue their intense scrutiny into allegations of severe neglect and abuse. The community in Blackpool is reeling with shock and disbelief as they grapple with these disturbing revelations.

During the trial, it was revealed that there was a ‘culture of abuse’ within the Stroke Unit, which allowed staff to have free and easy access to controlled substances. Staff members were able to help themselves to a strong sedative (Zopiclone) along with other medications, for their personal use or to sedate patients.

As former consultant Dr Amal Bose begins a prison sentence, the number of staff from Blackpool Victoria Hospital who have been jailed for criminal offences committed at work continues to rise, highlighting the scale of the problem.

Dr Bose is the sixth hospital staff member to go to jail since police began investigating allegations of neglect in the Hospital’s Stroke Unit in 2018. The arrogant surgeon sexually harassed younger female staff members in the Cardiothoracic Unit after being promoted to Department Head.

The Unit had a toxic culture, driven mainly by Dr Bose, as revealed in Preston Crown Court. He tried to disguise his predatory behaviour as ‘banter,’ leaving his victims feeling powerless due to his position of authority. However, the issues at the Hospital are much deeper, with ongoing and urgent investigations into allegations of neglect, mistreatment, and possible corporate failings.

A previous trial revealed that difficult patients on the Stroke Ward were sedated to make the staff’s shifts easier. In 2023, Catherine Hudson was found guilty of giving unprescribed sedatives to two patients and was jailed for seven years. Nurse Marek Grabianowski was jailed for 14 months for conspiracy to steal prescription drugs and for perverting the course of justice.

Hernando Puno, a healthcare worker in the Stroke Unit, was jailed for nine months because of five counts of sexual assault. Puno had been warned about his behaviour in 2014.

In 2024, Dr Xowi Mwimbi was sentenced to 12 months in prison for assaulting a dementia patient. Despite being warned that the patient’s condition could lead to uncontrollable outbursts, he punched the patient in the face. A jury rejected the doctor’s claim of self-defence, finding him guilty of ill-treatment as a care worker.

In 2025, Dr Aloaye Foy-Yamah received a 12-month ban from practising medicine after a tribunal from the General Medical Council (GMC) found him guilty of raping a female colleague in 2018.

At Blackpool Victoria Hospital, complaints and allegations of sexual abuse, rape, neglect, mistreatment, manslaughter, willful neglect, and breaches of the Health and Safety at Work Act were ignored. The question remains: why was this the case?

In many instances, political correctness—the self-censorship of behaviour or language to avoid offending others—has become standard in the workplace. As a result, due to the ethnicity of many of the individuals involved at the Blackpool Hospital of Horrors, appropriate action was not taken.
