The UK is expected to experience a significant population surge of 6.6 million by 2036, with a staggering 6.1 million attributed to an influx of immigrants. These numbers could be underestimated based on past projections. However, despite the potential gravity of this situation, there has been little national debate, and the main political parties are focusing on other issues. This lack of attention is disconcerting, as the consequences of such an increase – such as increased demand for housing and congestion in cities – could be disastrous for society.
The Conservative Party seems unlikely to act against mass immigration, as their supporters claim there is a shortage of suitable workers, which is essentially a way of justifying low-wage workers. Similarly, the Labour Party appears to support immigration for ideological reasons – their backers advocate for ‘No Nations, No Borders’. However, this stance seems unrealistic and misguided, as people naturally tend to seek out those with similar backgrounds and cultures.
It’s time for a change. The current approach seems inadequate, and a new direction is urgently needed.
