The main reason the NHS is a mess is because immigrants increase the demand for health services; therefore, no one should be surprised if waiting lists are getting longer and longer.

However, another consequence of mass immigration is the amount NHS Trusts spend yearly on interpreters and translations, as many patients don’t speak English.

In that regard, it recently emerged that the NHS Trust spends £100m yearly on interpreters and translation, enough to pay 3,000 nurses.

Using Freedom of Information laws, 251 NHS Trusts and 42 Intensive Care Boards (ICBs) were asked the cost of translation and interpretation services in 2021/22 and 2022/23. These costs are determined based on the number of non-English-speaking patients and the frequency of their visits, among other factors.

It’s alarming to note that trusts spent £44,885,265 and ICBs £14,762,608 last year, marking a significant increase from the £41,527,118 and £13,063,721 spent 12 months earlier. If this trend continues across all Trusts and ICBs, the bill could reach a staggering £102,612,830.

Birmingham Community Healthcare spent £64,775 translating into Bengali, £54,402 on Romanian translations and £53,405 for Punjabi services.

North Central London ICB’s Arabic work cost £59,458, while similar tasks cost Gateshead Health Foundation Trust £24,964; Chelsea and Westminster Hospital Foundation Trust paid out £20,521.

Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust spent £14,553 on Urdu services and translating into Romanian cost Cambridgeshire and Peterborough ICB £9,988.

The average spend on translation and interpretation at 132 trusts that replied was £314,599 in 2021/22, rising by 8% to £340,039 a year later.

Average ICB spend was £326,962 in 2021/22, increasing by 13% to £410,801.

Of course, this is unacceptable as the money spent on interpreters and translations could be used to hire more doctors and nurses. This is another unnecessary expenditure burdening the British taxpayer.
