Even though the Labour government may claim otherwise, the truth is that mass immigration is putting public services under huge strain, and this is particularly evident in schools.

Language Diversity in Schools

A few days ago, it was revealed that English is no longer the first language for the majority of pupils in one in 15 councils across England.

  • In 11 of England’s 153 local educational authorities, children primarily speak a language other than English at home, such as Urdu, Polish, and Punjabi.

According to data from the Department for Education:

  • In the East London borough of Newham, English is not the first language for 66% of pupils.
  • Harrow and Brent, two other London boroughs, have similarly high rates (63%).

Nationwide, English isn’t the first language of 1.8 million pupils, or one in five. This number has risen significantly from 1.1 million ten years ago, fueled by immigration that has spiraled to all-time highs.

This issue is not limited to London. In Glasgow, often called the asylum capital of the UK, one in three children does not speak English as their primary language.

The Impact on School Resources and Performance

The presence of a high number of children primarily speaking foreign languages at home means schools have had to divert their limited resources to provide for the needs of pupils who struggle with English.

Strain has been placed on already tight school budgets due to the need for:

  • Providing translated versions of resources.
  • Adding subtitling and voiceovers.
  • Funding in-class interpreters.

It is clear that such schools will likely perform poorly, and the native-speaking students will ultimately pay the price.

Political Stance

This crisis requires more than mere rhetoric; it demands concrete action. The British Democrats offer exactly that. By implementing our realistic and robust immigration policy, we will swiftly and effectively sort out the current mess.
