By David Furness

The European Customs Union focuses solely on trade in goods and is unrelated to immigration policy or the free movement of people. However, it remains a separate arrangement that could still impact our sovereignty and control over trade policies. MPs who support rejoining see it as a step towards full EU membership.

Customs Union:

  • Countries in the European Customs Union, including all EU member states and Monaco, do not charge customs duties on goods traded between them.
  • All member countries apply the same import duty on goods from outside the union, creating a unified market area for products.
  • Member countries negotiate as a single entity, prohibiting separate trade deals for goods covered by the union’s regulations.

Lib Dem MP Al Pinkerton introduced a Ten Minute Rule Bill supported by 101 MPs, which should alarm voters about potential threats to our independence.

In 2016, we made a bold decision to reclaim our sovereignty by leaving the EU, but now some MPs are pushing to undo that by rejoining the EU’s Customs Union.

We are witnessing the demise and total capitulation of our once proud nation. Rejoining the European Customs Union means a first step to Europe ruling over us. We must demand a general election now to choose leaders who will protect our independence!

Every MP who voted to join the European Customs Union should resign. Here is a list of those MPs:
