It has been promised several times by the government to put an end to the policy of keeping asylum seekers in hotels, but this still needs to be implemented, as their number is extremely high. Recently, it was revealed that 45,768 asylum seekers are still being housed in expensive hotel accommodation, costing £8.2 million per day or £2,993,000,000 per year. Despite the government’s promise in December 2022 to move them out, the costs have barely reduced, and only seven asylum seekers have been moved out since then.

This policy is unacceptable and damages local economies. Rooms are no longer available for tourists and business travellers, and events such as weddings, and local businesspeople face difficulties in making a living through tourism opportunities.

It is essential to end the use of hotels to house asylum seekers. However, the three main political parties seem unwilling to take action to stop this practice.

The British Democrats are calling for an end to this vast waste of British taxpayers’ money.
