The British Democrats are standing candidates at the local council elections on Thursday 2nd May. Within the past two months we have won a Town Council by-election in Cambridgeshire, and had another Councillor re-elected in Essex.
Here are eleven local election pledges our excellent candidates are campaigning for in their local wards.
COUNCIL TAX – Halt any further council tax rises and work towards a reduction. We reject wasting vast amounts of council taxpayers’ money on pointless, politically correct dogma and woke projects. We will endeavour to introduce an alternative commonsense spending plan that benefits most local residents ![]()
ROADS/HIGHWAYS AND FOOTPATHS – Investment to resurface and replace badly damaged roads and footpaths. Potholes have never been so bad and must be repaired. British Democrat councillors will lobby and pressure County Councils on this issue ![]()
ENVIRONMENT – Protect our green spaces, agricultural land, ancient woodland and the character of our villages and rural areas. Stop the rampant overdevelopment of green spaces by greedy big business developers, which is a symptom of the rapidly rising population due to the government’s failure to control immigration. We aim to be as self-sufficient as possible in food production; therefore, housing development on prime agricultural land should be avoided. We will preserve rural and suburban Britain by maximising the use of brownfield sites for future housing. Remember, when a green space is built on, it’s gone forever. The countryside is NOT for sale! ![]()
LOCAL SERVICES – Oppose any cuts in local services. Cut the fat cat council boss salaries and vast amounts of money wasted on so-called expert consultants. Senior council roles should be advertised widely for tender ![]()
PARKING – Three hours of free parking in town centres for local residents, which will boost business within the local economy and breathe life back into our high streets, saving shoppers money on parking fees. Reintroduce council owned car parks where possible ![]()
HOUSEHOLD WASTE AND RECYCLING – Ensure weekly rubbish collections are made for general household waste. Introduce a reciprocal agreement between neighbouring authorities to allow access to local residents and trades people who live near but outside the authority of the nearest recycling centre. Additionally, trades people would receive free access to recycling centres, which would help reduce the amount of fly tipping ![]()
HOUSING – Local housing for local people, decided with a local connection test. Priority must also go to British veterans. Consider using empty or under-used office space for housing. Create National Housing Corporation. Realistic mortgages (through financial reform), fair rents (relating to regional pay) and Britons 1st in Housing ![]()
CRIME – Increase police presence by putting police officers back on the beat so residents feel safe walking the streets. Anti-social behaviour (petty crime); Put active police units in every council ward. Foot patrols. Prevention rather than cure ![]()
OUR RIGHTS – Defend democracy and free speech on our local councils. The United Kingdom has a glorious history and cultural heritage, BUT IT’S UNDER THREAT! The British Democrats will defend our statues, street names, history, culture and the British way of life. We will protect the right of any individual councillor to have free speech within the council chamber, providing they are not advocating violence in any way. A healthy democracy, local or national, can only thrive if free speech and free expression are maintained ![]()
TRANSPORT – As a party that upholds traditional freedoms, we oppose the war on motorists. Therefore, there should be no ULEZ restrictions in the UK, no 15-minute cities or towns, no toll charges and no pay-per-mile road charging. Motorists should be free to drive anywhere. We oppose any restrictions on travel. The British Democrats believe in traditional British liberties ![]()
SOCIAL SERVICES – No more outsourcing! The welfare of Britons whether elderly, disabled or children is the responsibility of central government or the local authority ![]()
