In a social media broadcast titled “Bring back Duty and the Stiff Upper Lip”, former Conservative minister Sir Jacob Rees-Mogg delivered an extraordinary lecture to the British public.
Surrounded by comfortable surroundings, Rees-Mogg spent eight minutes complaining about peers removing their ties in the House of Lords and people writing misery memoirs, before casually pivoting to foreign conflict.
Comparing modern Britain to the fall of Ancient Rome, Rees-Mogg declared: “It is not impossible that in the next few years we may face a war… We may even face circumstances where people have to die to save their country.” He went on to lecture working-class families that stepping forward for potential slaughter is simply a matter of “duty” and “stoicism.”
This pomposity comes at a time when establishment figures and military commentators are openly floating compulsory service and civil reserve mobilisation to cover up severe recruitment shortfalls across our depleted regular forces.
For decades, successive Conservative and Labour governments have gutted our armed forces through ill-considered defence cuts: a short-sighted approach best exemplified historically by the removal of HMS Endurance from Falkland Islands patrols in 1981, which sent an unmistakable signal of weakness to foreign aggressors.
Now, having overseen the managed decline of Britain, globalist politicians expect British youths to step into foreign battlefields to maintain an establishment that treats them with utter contempt.
At the British Democrats, our foreign policy and national defence strategy is firm, realistic, and uncompromising:
- No Servicemen Sent to Die in Foreign Conflicts: Our foreign policy must be dictated solely by the need to protect our own people, our territory, and our vital national interests. We reject foreign entanglements and proxy wars.
- Strong Defence, Not Pacifism or Appeasement: We are neither warmongers intent on pointless wars nor pacifists seeking appeasement. We demand a permanent state of military readiness, supported by an independent nuclear deterrent and life-defending equipment of the highest quality.
- Secure British Borders: Our armed forces must be deployed to guard our own borders against mass immigration, handle civil emergencies, and defend our homeland against any aggressor with vigour and determination.
Our nation should never be dragged into foreign conflicts by wealthy political elites lecturing the working class on “stiff upper lips” from comfortable drawing rooms. It is time to replace establishment warmongering with a strong, self-reliant defence policy that puts the security of British people first.
