Here are some basic facts about Khan’s camera scheme.
Yunex Traffic which is supplying TfL (Transport for London) with its ULEZ (Ultra Low Emission Zone) infrastructure says that the technology behind the Siemens “Sicore II” Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) enforcement cameras allows one camera to monitor three lanes at 40 frames per second, recording 2,500 fast-moving vehicles per hour per lane.
The ULEZ cameras use approximately 25w each (25w per camera x 24h = 600w) and there are over 2800 of them (600w x 2800 cameras). That is a nominal power consumption of 0.6kwh per camera per day x 2800 = 1680kwh per day or 613200kwh per year. The electricity consumption of the average household according to Ofgem is 2900kwh per year. So the power used by these ULEZ cameras per day approximates to 7 months of use for the average household. The emissions for generating 1680kwh per day are 391.675kg CO2e and 142961.448kg CO2e per year.
CO2e is a measure that was created by the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). CO2e essentially describes the global warming potential of all greenhouse gases.

The power consumption and emission figures are just for the fixed cameras, it does not include the computer system servers or the twenty or so electric vans with mobile cameras. It also does not include the contractor’s fuel, or emissions from the manufacturing process etc. So Mayor Khan’s baby is not so green. By the way, Khan is the current Chairman of the C40 Cities organisation.

Below are the details for a Freedom of Information request (FOI) to TfL from 22 March 2023.
• How much does each ULEZ camera cost?
• How many ULEZ cameras are there across Greater London?
• How much energy does each camera use?

The British Democrats oppose Sadiq (C40) Khan and his environmentally unfriendly ULEZ scheme, which has been dubbed by many as just another stealth tax.
We also oppose the C40 Cities organisation and their weaponised pseudo-climate agenda.
According to Freedom of Information responses from TfL, Mayor Khan’s ULEZ “Siemens2 “Sicore II” Automatic Number Plate Recognition cameras (ANPR) cost an average of £50,000 each.
There is fierce opposition to the ULEZ in Outer London. A number of activists calling themselves Blade Runners have been vandalising ULEZ cameras. At first, activists numbers were small but their number has grown considerably.
However, there are many who are concerned that the removal and vandalising of these expensive cameras will push TfL into spending even more public money to repair or replace the cameras. Therefore, some are putting supermarket bags over the cameras. So, they have been putting shopping bags over the cameras!
C40 Chairman, Sadiq Khan is not going to stop because he has to keep face with C40, the WEF, and WHO as well as many other climate and environmental money-making groups and individuals.
